مكة المكرمة مدينة من أقدس المدن حيث تضم بيت الله الحرام وهي بلد النبي صل الله عليه وسلم، وتعتبر من أحب البلدان إلى قلبه عليه أفضل الصلاة والتسليم، وهي مقصد الآلاف من الناس منذ قديم الزمان فهي مكان الحج قبل الإسلام وبعد الإسلام .

وأصبح الآن يقصدها الملايين من الناس على مدار العام ما بين حاج ومعتمر، فهي تعد من الوجهات السياحية التي تحتل مركزا عالميًا بين أكبر الأماكن السياحية على مستوى العالم بسبب وجود بيت الله الحرام بها إلى جانب بعض المزارات الأخرى، بأي حال من الأحوال مكة هي حلم الكثير بالزيارة وهي أطهر بقاع الأرض.

تقع مدينة مكة في المملكة  وتحديدًا تقع في الجهة الغربية من المملكة، حيث تقع في ملتقي خطي طول 2 22ْ شمالاً مع خط الطول 8َ 39ْ، وكذلك في ملتقى دائرتي عرض 21 82ْ عرضا مع 37َ 54ْ، كما تقع على ارتفاع 300 متر فوق سطح البحر.

ويعد التكوين الجيولوجي الذي تقع عليه مكه واحد من أكثر التكوينات الجيولوجية تعقيدًا، حيث نجدها تقع ضمن الدرع العربي وهو تكوين يقوم على قاعدة من الصخور القديمة، وتغلب على مساحتها الجبال كما تحيط تلك الجبال بالمدينة.

تقع مكة في المنطقة المدارية مما جعل الغالب في مكة المناخ الصحراوي الحار، وبسبب بعدها عن المسطحات المائية فإنها تتمتع بمناخ جاف إلى حد ما، إلا أنها تتمتع بمناخ دافئ في فصل الشتاء، أما المطر بها فيزداد من نوفمبر وحتى يناير، أما الرياح التي تهب عليها فهي الرياح الشمالية والشمالية الغربية والجنوبية الغربية.
